Jim Dandy Winterberry Holly is a male pollinator for early flowering varieties of female Winterberry shrubs.
Botanically referenced as ‘Ilex Verticillata ‘Jim Dandy,’ this male Winterberry is extremely hardy. The Jim Dandy boasts fluffy dark green foliage as well as dainty white flowers in early spring. The deciduous plant’s full form and hardiness to the elements makes it ideal for a wide variety of landscape projects.
This male plant’s number one purpose is to pollinate for female varieties like the Red Sprite Winterberry and Berry Heavy Winterberry. One Jim Dandy Holly will generally be sufficient for pollinating 6 to 8 blooming female plants.
Ideal conditions for the Jim Dandy Hollies include full sun to part shade and wet soil conditions. Pruning is rarely needed with this dwarf plant. If pruning is required, we recommend to prune your Holly in early spring to not interfere with flower production. Enjoy this plant’s gorgeous fall color when the leaves transition to blends of purple and yellow.
